  • 5 Christmas Card Ideas + Photo Inspiration for a Beautiful Holiday Card

There’s something about receiving a Christmas card in the mail that makes the holiday season feel a little more special. Maybe it’s seeing how much the kids have grown since last Christmas, getting a glimpse of a friend’s new home, or simply having a little piece of someone you love sitting on the refrigerator for the month of December. And while choosing a Christmas card sounds simple, there are so many options. Classic and traditional? Minimal and neutral? Colorful and playful? A beautiful family photo or something a little more understated? I personally love the idea of choosing your Christmas card style and family photos together. The two can really complement each other and make the finished card feel intentional without being overly complicated. If you're looking for Christmas card ideas, Christmas photo inspiration, or printable Christmas cards, here are five styles to consider this year. 1. Classic & Traditional Christmas Cards A timeless Christmas card featuring traditional holiday colors, elegant lettering, and a favorite family photo. You really can't go wrong with a classic Christmas card. Think traditional Christmas colors like deep red, forest green, ivory and touches of gold, paired with timeless typography and a favorite family photo. This style is especially pretty if you love a Christmas aesthetic that feels warm and traditional without looking overly themed. Christmas photo idea: For a classic Christmas card, consider taking your family photos somewhere that already feels festive. A few ideas: In front of your Christmas tree Outside in front of an evergreen tree Walking through a Christmas tree farm In a cozy living room with the tree in the background In coordinating neutral, red, cream or green outfits You don't necessarily need everyone to wear matching Christmas pajamas. In fact, mixing textures and coordinating colors can make family photos feel a little more timeless. Simple tip: Choose one or two Christmas colors and build everyone's outfits around them rather than having everyone wear the exact same thing. Card design idea: A traditional card could feature a large family photo surrounded by a simple border, with classic typography and a small Christmas greeting. This would be a great style for one of your printable Christmas card designs. 2. Simple & Neutral Christmas Cards Simple, soft, and timeless—neutral Christmas cards are perfect for a clean, understated holiday look. If you're drawn to a more minimal, neutral Christmas aesthetic, you don't need bright red and green to make a Christmas card feel festive. Cream, beige, soft taupe, warm gray, muted green and subtle brown can create a beautiful holiday look that feels sophisticated and understated. This is especially perfect if your home and personal style already lean toward neutral colors. Christmas photo idea: A neutral Christmas card pairs beautifully with an outdoor family photo. Try: A snowy outdoor setting A Christmas tree farm A neutral-colored studio A cozy bedroom or living room Your family sitting together on a simple blanket Walking through a neighborhood decorated for Christmas For outfits, think cream sweaters, denim, tan, camel, brown, soft green and muted patterns. You could even choose one subtle pattern—like a plaid skirt or sweater—and keep everything else solid. Card design idea: Keep the card itself simple. A cream background, elegant typography and one large photograph can look incredibly polished. You could also use a smaller photo with plenty of white space around it. This is one of those Christmas card styles that feels beautiful year after year. 3. Cozy Christmas Pajama Cards Add a little extra cheer with a playful Christmas photo card featuring festive colors and fun holiday lettering. If you have little kids, Christmas pajamas are practically a holiday tradition. And honestly, they make some of the cutest Christmas card photos. This style is a little more playful and casual than a traditional family portrait, which can make it feel especially personal. Christmas photo idea: Instead of trying to get everyone to sit perfectly and smile at the camera, embrace the chaos. Some ideas: Christmas morning:Take photos of everyone in pajamas sitting around the Christmas tree with presents. Pancake morning:Have everyone in pajamas gathered around the kitchen island making Christmas breakfast. Story time:Pile everyone onto the couch and take photos reading a favorite Christmas book. Tree decorating:Capture your family decorating the tree together. Bedtime:Take a cozy photo of the kids snuggled together under a blanket with the Christmas tree glowing in the background. The best part about this type of photo session is that it doesn't have to feel like a photo session at all. Card design idea: A playful Christmas card with a fun font, pops of red and green, and one or two candid photos would work perfectly here. You could even design a card specifically around a “Merry Christmas” family photo collage. 4. Elegant & Minimal Christmas Cards For a more refined look, choose an elegant Christmas card with delicate details, classic typography, and a beautiful family portrait. For something a little more elevated, consider an elegant Christmas card with simple typography and a sophisticated color palette. Think ivory, black, champagne, muted green or subtle metallic-inspired details. And yes—you can create the look of gold or metallic details in a printable design without actually using foil. For example, a warm champagne-colored font or a subtle gold-inspired border can give your card that elegant feeling while still printing beautifully at home. Christmas photo idea: This style works particularly well with a more polished family photo. Try: A formal family portrait A photo in front of your decorated fireplace A Christmas tree photo with lots of warm lights An outdoor evening photo A simple portrait against a neutral background For clothing, consider dressing slightly more formally than you normally would. A velvet dress, sweater dress, button-down shirt, trousers or a simple neutral dress can instantly make the photos feel more elevated. Card design idea: Let the design breathe. A simple photo, elegant serif font and plenty of white space can look much more expensive than a card filled with graphics and decorations. Sometimes less really is more. 5. Fun & Festive Christmas Cards Can't choose just one photo? A Christmas photo collage lets you share several favorite family moments in one card. Not every Christmas card needs to be sophisticated and neutral. If your family has a colorful, playful personality, let that show! A fun Christmas card can incorporate bright colors, playful illustrations, whimsical typography or multiple family photos. Christmas photo idea: Think about doing something a little unexpected. You could take photos: Baking Christmas cookies Decorating gingerbread houses Building a snowman Wearing silly Christmas sweaters Opening presents Making a Christmas craft Visiting Santa Playing in the snow Having a hot chocolate night Instead of trying to create the “perfect” family portrait, focus on capturing your family actually enjoying the holiday. Those candid moments often end up being the photos you love the most. Card design idea: This is the perfect opportunity for a colorful printable Christmas card. Try combining playful typography with a few smaller photos instead of using one large portrait. How to Choose the Right Christmas Card Style If you're overwhelmed by all of the Christmas card ideas out there, start with your personal style. Ask yourself: Do I love traditional Christmas colors? Look for a classic red and green design. Do I prefer neutral home decor? Try a minimal cream or beige card. Do you have little kids? A playful design or pajama photo may be perfect. Do you like a more elevated look? Choose simple typography and an elegant color palette. Do you love color and personality? Don't be afraid to choose a fun, colorful design. Your Christmas card doesn't have to look like anyone else's. It should feel like your family. Christmas Card Photo Tips You don't need a professional photographer to get beautiful Christmas card photos. If you're taking your own photos, a few small details can make a big difference. Pay attention to lighting Natural light is your best friend. If you're taking photos indoors, try taking them near a large window during the day. Turn off harsh overhead lights and let the natural light do most of the work. Coordinate instead of matching Matching outfits can be cute, but coordinating colors and textures usually creates a more natural-looking photo. Choose a color palette and let each person wear something slightly different. Don't forget the candid photos Some of the best Christmas card photos aren't the perfectly posed ones. Take a few photos of everyone looking at the camera, but also let the kids move around, laugh, hug and interact with each other. Take more photos than you think you need Kids move quickly—and someone will inevitably blink. Take lots of photos from slightly different angles. You'll have a much better chance of finding that one photo where everyone is looking at the camera. Think about your card before taking the photos This is an easy one to overlook. If you know you want a card with a large photo on one side and text on the other, take some horizontal photos. If you're planning on using a vertical card, make sure you have a few portrait-oriented photos too. Planning the photo composition around your Christmas card template can save you a lot of frustration later. Printable Christmas Cards: A Simple Alternative If you love the idea of sending beautiful Christmas cards but don't want to spend a fortune on professionally printed stationery, printable Christmas cards can be a great option. With a digital Christmas card template, you can download your design, personalize it with your family photo and print your cards at home or through your favorite print shop. It's also a nice option if you tend to wait until the last minute to send your holiday cards—because there's no waiting for shipping. For an even more personal touch, choose a printable design that fits your family's style rather than simply picking the first Christmas card you see. Classic Christmas Card A timeless option for traditional family photos and classic holiday colors. Neutral Christmas Card Perfect for families who love a simple, minimal and neutral Christmas aesthetic. Playful Christmas Card A fun option for colorful family photos, kids and a more whimsical holiday look. Elegant Christmas Card Simple typography and sophisticated details for a more elevated Christmas card. Photo Collage Christmas Card A great way to include several favorite family photos from the year. Make Your Christmas Card Feel Personal At the end of the day, the best Christmas card isn't necessarily the one with the fanciest design. It's the one that makes you smile when you see it. Maybe it's a slightly blurry photo of your toddler laughing. Maybe it's the picture where nobody is looking at the camera. Maybe it's the family photo you almost didn't use because the kids weren't perfectly posed. Those little imperfections are often what make holiday memories feel real. Choose a Christmas card style that feels like your family, take photos that capture this season of life, and don't worry too much about making everything perfect. Because a Christmas card is really just a little way of saying: We're thinking of you, and we hope you have a beautiful holiday season. You don't have to sacrifice style for comfort. With a few versatile wardrobe staples, you can create an Iowa football outfit that feels relaxed, polished, and perfect for a crisp fall Saturday. A Chic and Casual Iowa Football Outfit One of my favorite ways to style a college football outfit is to mix sporty pieces with classic fall layers. Think a cozy football sweatshirt, a baseball cap, comfortable pants, and a statement coat that pulls everything together. For this look, I paired an Iowa cap and a gray football sweatshirt with a brown plaid coat, black wide-leg pants, and neutral sneakers. The combination of black, cream, and warm brown tones creates a timeless fall look while keeping the outfit comfortable enough for a full day of game-day activities. Shop the look: Iowa baseball cap Gray football sweatshirt Brown plaid long coat Black wide-leg pants New Balance Leopard sneakers Tortoise shell sunglasses Gold beaded necklace What to Wear to a Fall Football Tailgate Fall tailgates can mean chilly mornings, sunny afternoons, and plenty of time spent outside. Layering is key! Here are a few easy ways to create a stylish football tailgate outfit: Start with a comfortable base: A sweatshirt or long-sleeve tee is an easy foundation. Add a fall layer: A plaid coat, shacket, or oversized jacket adds warmth and texture. Choose comfortable shoes: Neutral sneakers are practical for walking and standing. • Red & Pink Pizza Party Ideas for a 2nd Birthday

When my little girl turned two, I knew we needed a birthday party that was fun, playful, and completely centered around one of her favorite foods: pizza! I decided to take the classic pizza party theme and give it a sweet, girly twist with shades of bubblegum pink, red, and gingham. The result was a cozy pizza party right at home, filled with balloons, pizza-inspired decorations, pink plates, and the cutest little details. And honestly, I think the red and pink color combination might be one of my favorite party themes yet. The Tablescape The tablescape was definitely the star of the party. I wanted it to feel festive without being overly complicated, so I started with a pink and white gingham tablecloth and layered everything else around it. The gingham immediately gave the table that classic, nostalgic party feeling while the bright pink plates and red accents brought in the pizza theme. For the main table, I used: Pink and white gingham tablecloth Pink and red plates Clear glasses Red and pink napkins Pizza-inspired decorations Pink and red balloons Small decorative touches throughout the table For the smaller round table, I used a matching gingham tablecloth to make the two tables feel cohesive. Shop the rectangular pink gingham tableclothShop the round pink gingham tablecloth A Simple Trick for Making Party Tables Look More Expensive One of my favorite things about this setup is that the tablecloths did a lot of the decorating for me. Instead of buying an elaborate table covering, the gingham pattern became the foundation for the entire party. Once I added pink plates, red accents, balloons, and a few little decorative touches, everything looked coordinated without requiring a huge amount of work. Gingham is also such an easy pattern to reuse for birthdays, picnics, Valentine's Day parties, summer gatherings, and even a strawberry-themed party. The Pink & Red Balloon Decor Of course, no second birthday party is complete without balloons! I kept the balloon colors simple and used mostly soft pink, bright pink, and red. Rather than creating one huge balloon installation, I spread balloons throughout the dining room so the decorations felt like they were part of the entire space. I also loved how the balloons reflected in the large mirror across from the dining table. It made the room feel even more decorated without actually needing additional decorations. The combination of the balloons, gingham tablecloths, and pizza decorations really brought the whole theme together. The Pizza Party Decorations The pizza theme was carried throughout the room with a few simple details. A “PIZZA PARTY” banner, red and pink paper decorations, and little pizza-inspired touches gave the room an unmistakable birthday-party feel. I didn't want every single thing to scream "pizza," though. Keeping the main color palette consistent allowed the pizza details to stand out without making the room feel too themed. That's something I love about party planning: you don't need a million decorations to make a theme work. Choose a color palette you love, find two or three recognizable details for the theme, and let everything else coordinate around them. A Pink Pizza Birthday Cake The cake might have been my favorite detail of all. Instead of a traditional birthday cake, we went with a pink cake decorated with tiny pizza slices. The entire cake was covered in pink frosting and finished with little pizza details in yellow, red, and pink. And right in the center was a big number two for her second birthday. It was such a fun way to combine the birthday girl's favorite color palette with the pizza theme. The cake was placed on a white cake stand with a gold cake board underneath, which gave it a little extra special-occasion sparkle. The Food Since this was a pizza party, the food didn't need to be complicated! The goal was to have food that was easy for adults and little kids to enjoy while keeping everything casual and family-friendly. We served pizza along with simple snack foods and treats, and I kept the food displayed right on the dining tables so guests could help themselves. For a toddler birthday party, I really loved this approach because it meant less formal serving and more time enjoying the party. Why I Loved This Birthday Theme There are so many reasons I'd recommend a pizza party for a toddler's birthday. It's: Easy to plan. Pizza is already the main food, so you don't have to come up with a complicated menu. Easy to decorate. Red, pink, and gingham give you a very clear color palette to work with. Perfect for kids. Pizza is one of those foods that works for a wide range of ages. Easy to personalize. You can make the party more girly, more colorful, more neutral, or even go with a classic red-and-black pizza-shop look. And most importantly, it feels fun. My Favorite Red & Pink Pizza Party Details If you're planning your own pizza-themed birthday party, these are the details I'd prioritize: 1. Start with your tablecloth A gingham tablecloth instantly gives the party a fun, coordinated foundation. 2. Pick two or three main colors I stuck with pink, red, and white. Keeping the palette limited made decorating much easier. 3. Use balloons throughout the room You don't need one massive balloon arch. A few clusters placed around the room can have a huge impact. 4. Add one statement banner The pizza party banner immediately communicated the theme. 5. Coordinate the birthday outfit I loved that her denim dress and boots felt special without being overly costume-like. 6. Let the cake carry the theme A simple pink cake became a statement piece just by adding tiny pizza decorations. Shop Our Pizza Party If you're planning a red and pink pizza birthday party, here are some of the pieces I used to create our setup: Shop Our Red & Pink Pizza Party Birthday Favorites 🍕💗 The Sweetest Second Birthday Looking back at the photos, I love how this party felt special without being overly complicated. It was just a house filled with balloons, a table covered in pink gingham, pizza, cake, family, and a very happy two-year-old. And really, that's what I love most about planning parties—the little details don't have to be perfect. They just have to make the people you're celebrating feel special. If you're planning a pizza-themed birthday party, I hope this gives you a few ideas for creating your own red and pink celebration! 🍕💕

  • My Daughter’s First Birthday: The Sweetest Ice Cream-Themed Party

There is something so special about planning a baby’s first birthday. It is their first big celebration, but if I’m being honest, it is also a little bit of a celebration for the parents who somehow made it through that first year. 🤍 I have always loved planning parties and creating a theme, so when it came time to plan my daughter’s first birthday, I knew I wanted to do something that felt playful, colorful and sweet without being overly complicated. And what could be sweeter than an ice cream party? I landed on a soft pastel color palette of blush pink, peach, lavender, mint, baby blue and pale yellow. From the balloons to the dessert table, I wanted everything to feel like a little old-fashioned ice cream shop — but with a girly, first-birthday twist. Here is a peek at how it all came together! A pastel ice cream-themed birthday party dessert table with a pink-and-white awning, sundae bar, birthday cake, sweet treats, and colorful toppings. The Inspiration: A Pastel Ice Cream Shop The biggest inspiration for the party was the idea of creating an entire little ice cream experience rather than simply putting up a few ice cream decorations. The balloon displays ended up being one of my favorite parts. We used oversized peach balloons as the base, with smaller pastel balloons mixed throughout. At the top was a giant pink “sprinkle” ball, which really made the display feel like an oversized ice cream sundae. I loved that the colors weren't perfectly matched. The little pops of mint, lavender, yellow and blue made everything feel whimsical and fun. The balloon columns also helped frame the party area and made the space feel much more decorated without needing to cover every wall. Party-planning tip: If you are working with a large space, don't feel like you need decorations everywhere. A few oversized focal points — like a balloon installation, dessert table and welcome sign — can make a much bigger impact than lots of small decorations scattered throughout the room. The Dessert Table Of course, the dessert table was the star of an ice cream-themed birthday party. I wanted it to feel like a little ice cream shop, so we had a variety of toppings, candies and treats displayed in glass and crystal-style serving dishes. There were sprinkles, candies, dessert toppings and plenty of little details for guests to customize their treats. I also loved using different heights on the table. Cake stands, pedestal dishes, jars and trays made everything much more visually interesting than simply lining everything up across the table. And because it was a first birthday, I definitely wanted the cake to have its own special moment. The table was finished with a soft pink tablecloth and an ice cream-themed banner, which tied the whole setup together. The Ice Cream Cart One of my favorite details was the pink ice cream cart. It made serving everything so much easier, but it also doubled as part of the décor. I love party pieces that are both functional and cute — especially when you're already trying to keep track of a million things on party day. We used the cart to hold some of the ice cream accessories and treats, while a small rolling cart nearby held additional party supplies. If you're planning a party at home, a rolling cart is honestly one of those things I would recommend having even if it isn't specifically "party décor." It makes it so much easier to move cups, utensils, napkins and serving supplies around as you need them. The Little Details The details are what made the party feel personal. I wanted everything to coordinate without looking like it came from one giant party kit. We mixed purchased decorations with pieces we already had, and I loved using simple items in unexpected ways. One example was the oversized pink bow. It added such a fun feminine touch and worked beautifully with the pastel balloon colors. I also loved the little ice cream cups and colorful sprinkles. They were inexpensive details, but when everything was displayed together, they made the dessert table feel much more intentional. This is probably my biggest party-planning philosophy: You don't need everything to match. You just need everything to belong together. Pick your color palette first, and then choose pieces that fit within it. The Sweetest Birthday Girl And then, of course, there was the actual reason for the party. Watching her experience everything for the first time was my favorite part. The balloons, the cake, the decorations, the people who came to celebrate her — she was surrounded by so much love. I know she won't remember her first birthday party, but I will. And that's really why I love putting so much thought into these celebrations. It isn't about making everything perfect. It's about creating a moment that you get to look back on years later. What I Bought for the Party I've rounded up some of the Amazon finds that helped bring this party together below. These are the kinds of products I love because they can be used for more than one party. A lot of the serving pieces, carts and décor can easily be repurposed for birthdays, baby showers, bridal showers, summer parties and more. Birthday outfit: The birthday sweatshirt I found for my daughter. Oversized pink bow: This was such a fun statement piece and would also be adorable for a baby shower, Valentine's Day party or little girl's birthday. Pink cake stand: A simple serving piece that can be reused for cakes, cupcakes or desserts at future parties. Ice cream cups: These were perfect for serving ice cream and made the dessert table feel much more themed. Rolling pink ice chest: Cute and functional — especially for an outdoor party or any event where you need to keep drinks and cold treats nearby. Acrylic drink/champagne holder: A pretty little serving accessory that can be reused for parties, showers and entertaining. Ice cream birthday banner: An easy way to bring the theme together without having to DIY every decoration. Three-tier rolling cart: One of my favorite practical purchases because it gave us extra storage and made it easy to move supplies around. Pedestal dessert dishes: These added height and dimension to the dessert table and made even simple candies look more special. Rainbow sprinkles: Because an ice cream party obviously needs sprinkles! If I Were Planning This Party Again... I would absolutely choose an ice cream theme again. It's one of those themes that gives you so many directions to go — pastel, colorful, vintage ice cream parlor, pink and girly, rainbow, minimalist or even a more sophisticated "ice cream social." And the best part is that you don't have to spend a fortune to make it look special. Choose two or three major statement pieces, establish your color palette, and then let the little details do the rest. For me, the balloon installation, dessert table and ice cream cart were the pieces that really transformed the space. Everything else just added to the story. And that is what I love most about party planning. Taking an idea and turning it into an actual little world for one day. This one just happened to be a very sweet, very pastel, very sprinkle-filled world. And I wouldn't have had it any other way. 🍦🎀 Shop the Party I've linked the products I purchased below so you can easily find them if you're planning your own ice cream-themed celebration. • The Cutest Toddler Pebbles Costume for Halloween | Our Flintstones Family Costume

There are some Halloween costumes that you plan months in advance... and then there are the costumes that somehow turn into a whole production. 😂 Our Flintstones Halloween costume was definitely the second one. I had SO much fun putting this together for Nina, and seeing her dressed up as Pebbles Flintstone was honestly one of my favorite Halloween memories. Add in a homemade little Flintstones wagon, a giant Dino, and Nonnie joining in on the fun, and we were all in. And because I'm a mom who likes to be comfortable, I decided my version of Wilma needed to be a little more low-maintenance and cozy. 😉 🧡 Nina as Pebbles The star of the whole show was, of course, Pebbles. I wanted her costume to feel like classic Pebbles without making it overly complicated. The bright orange dress, little bone accessories, and adorable toddler-sized details made the whole look come together. And honestly, there's something about a toddler in an orange Pebbles costume that is just too cute. 🦴 The Flintstones Wagon But we couldn't stop at the costume. I decided Nina needed her own little Flintstones-style wagon to really complete the look. We turned her wagon into a prehistoric-looking car with cardboard, paint, and a little creativity. It ended up being one of my favorite parts of the entire costume. It also made trick-or-treating a LOT easier with a little one! 💗 And Then There Was Dino... Because what would Pebbles be without Dino? Naturally, Nonnie was Dino. 😂 This might have been my favorite part of the entire night. Watching Nina interact with Dino while she was dressed as Pebbles was absolutely priceless. And let's be honest — Nonnie committed to the role. 🤍 My Low-Maintenance Wilma Costume For my costume, I wanted something that felt like Wilma without spending the entire night worrying about my costume. So I went with a comfortable, simplified version of Wilma — white top, black pants, and a chunky white necklace to give it that recognizable Flintstones feel. Was it the most historically accurate Wilma costume ever? Absolutely not. 😂 Was it comfortable enough to chase a toddler around all night? YES. And that's what really matters. 🎃 Our Flintstones Halloween Night The best part wasn't even the costumes themselves — it was getting to experience Halloween together. Nina was at the perfect age to really start enjoying all of the excitement. She loved seeing everyone's costumes, riding around in her little Flintstones wagon, and of course meeting Dino. Looking back at these pictures, I'm so glad I decided to go all in on the theme. Sometimes the costumes that take a little extra creativity end up being the ones you remember the most. And this one was definitely worth it. 🛒 Shop Our Flintstones Halloween Costume If you're planning a Pebbles Flintstone costume for your toddler, I've put together the pieces and inspiration from our costume in my Amazon Storefront.
